Acoustic control at Aylesbury College - January 2007

Construction of Aylesbury College has been underway since February 2005, with the aim of delivering a modern curriculum in a custom designed, modern educational environment.  The college is committed to providing a wide range of courses, training and apprenticeships.  The building comprises a main reception area, library and various teaching areas and Knauf AMF products were at the core of the interiors design, with 10,000 sq m of Thermacoustic and Fine Stratos being installed throughout the college.  Specified by Bond Bryan Architects, AMF’s products were ideally suited for the requirements of the location, specifically in terms of acoustic control.

“The project required ceiling systems that adhere to the performance criteria of the location, specifically acoustic control”, comments David Martin, Bond Bryan Architects.  “AMF Thermacoustic and Fine Stratos ceilings have all the acoustics and aesthetic characteristics we required and were competitively priced.”  Thermacoustic tiles offer excellent sound absorption and sound reduction, perfectly suited to schools, hospitals, offices, retail and leisure sectors.  The concealed acoustic fleece of the tile provides a smooth finish for an aesthetically pleasing ceiling, while perforations in the tile provide excellent sound absorption. Tested in accordance with BS EN ISO 354 for acoustic value Thermacoustic tiles are the perfect choice for environments where excessive noise needs to be absorbed and internal and external sound penetration minimised.  At Aylesbury College they were used in teaching areas, the dance studio, sports testing suite and throughout the ground floor of the building.  Both AMF Thermacoustic and Fine Stratos were installed by WRR (UK) Interiors, Luton.

AMF Fine Stratos tile was also used in the new building at Aylesbury College.  The clean, crisp white plain tile, with micro-perforations, provides excellent sound absorption, as well as being fire resistant, light reflective and hygienic. Contracts Manager, Matthew Wickham of WRR (UK) Interiors comments, “This is the first time we have used AMF products and I was impressed with Fine Stratos tiles.  They look great and adhere to the decibel ratings required for the location”.

Thermacoustic and Fine Stratos tiles are available in various thickness and sizes and can be used in conjunction with a number of suspended systems, providing the looks and performance required for. As one of the leading manufacturers of acoustic ceiling tiles in Europe Knauf AMF is ideally suited to provide ceiling solutions for high specification requirements.
