From the 1st of January 2009 a BER Certificate is compulsory for all homes being sold or rented. Also, in relation to the Home Energy Saving Scheme / Insulation Grants, the SEI are recommending a Before BER Assessment to identify the areas of improvement that will bring most benefit and an After BER Assessment to show the improvement to the Building Energy Rating when the work has been carried out. If you carry out both a Before and After BER Assessment you can apply for a 200 Euro HES Grant.

Along with the BER certificate, you will also receive an Advisory Report which will help you to identify how you might improve the energy performance of your home.
